Amino Acids Selective Panel
Evaluation of select plasma amino acids (Phe, Tyr, Leu, Ile, Val, and Allo-Ile) is used in monitoring and adjusting dietary treatment in patients with phenylketonuria (PKU) and maple syrup urine disease (MSUD). This amino acid analysis is performed by liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method or ion exchange chromatography.
Specimen Requirements
- Plasma: 2-3 mL of blood in sodium heparin tube (green top), fasting or 4 hours postprandial. Infants should be drawn just before next feeding. Avoid drawing while on TPN. Centrifuge immediately and freeze plasma. A minimum of 0.5 mL blood (0.2 mL plasma) is required
