Maternal Cell Contamination

Molecular testing of prenatal samples such as amniotic fluid or chorionic villi may, in rare instances, produce inaccurate results due to contamination from maternal material. Testing for maternal cell contamination is highly recommended for all prenatal samples when molecular testing is ordered on the specimen. A blood sample from the mother should be submitted along with each prenatal sample in order to perform these studies.

Prior to ordering prenatal testing, please contact our laboratory at 800.298.6470 to discuss.
